NOV Drilling Rigs – National Oilwell Drilling Rigs – National Drilling Rigs
NOV stakes claim to some of the most well respected drilling rig brands in the oilfield. National Oilwell’s two preceding main companies were Oilwell Supply and National Supply Founded in 1862 and 1893 respectively, Oilwell Supply and National Supply were on separate paths for many years in the industry before joining forces in 2005. These two companies primarily manufactured and distributed pumps and derricks. In the 1930s, US Steel bought Oilwell Supply and In 1958 Armco Steel acquired National Supply. By the 1980s National Supply had merged with USS Oilwell to become “National Oilwell”. At the turn of the millennium, National Oilwell partnered up with IRI International Corp, a manufacturer of drilling rigs and related products.
What about Varco? Varco was founded as Abegg and Reinhold Company by Walter Abegg and Baldwin Reinhold in the early 1900s. Edgar Vuilleumier joined as a partner in 1915. Coined in 1915, “VARCO” is an acronym for: Vuilleumier, Abegg and Reinhold Company and later the company became known as Varco International in 1973.
Many of the drilling rigs from prior brands remain workhorses in the oilfield such as these National Drilling Rigs. Often these models are rebuilt and available as “like new” condition.
